Triphala churna is one of the most widely used classical Ayurvedic formulas in Indian homes. It is simple – three dried fruits ground together – and it is sold by almost every Ayurvedic maker. This guide explains what triphala churna is used for, how it is taken and how to choose between the powder, tablet and juice in our Ayurvedic churna and gas, acidity and digestion ranges.
What is triphala churna?
Triphala is a Sanskrit word meaning “three fruits”. The classical formula combines equal parts of:
- Amalaki (amla, Indian gooseberry) – Emblica officinalis
- Haritaki (harad) – Terminalia chebula
- Bibhitaki (baheda) – Terminalia bellirica
The dried fruits are powdered and sieved to make churna (a fine powder). Read more about this form in our guide What is churna?
Triphala churna uses
Manufacturers describe triphala mainly as a support for the digestive system:
- Regular, comfortable bowel movements – this is how Dabur, Himalaya and Baidyanath market their triphala products.
- Digestion – Ayurveda uses triphala as a gentle digestive and general tonic (rasayana).
- Traditional uses – classical texts also mention triphala for the eyes and as part of other formulas such as Triphala Guggulu. Do not put any product in your eyes unless the label says it is made for that.
Triphala is not a treatment for a medical condition. Constipation that lasts more than two weeks, blood in the stool, weight loss or severe pain need a doctor.
त्रिफला चूर्ण के फायदे और उपयोग (Hindi)
How to take triphala churna
Always follow the dose printed on your pack. As a general guide, triphala powder is usually taken with warm water at bedtime or before meals; tablets are usually taken 1–2 at a time twice daily (as on the Himalaya label). Start at the lower end of the label dose, drink enough water and do not take more than the label says. Our guide on how to read an Ayurvedic medicine label explains where to find the dose and directions.
Triphala churna vs tablets vs juice
| Form | Example in our store | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Churna (powder) | Dabur Triphala Churna 120 g | The traditional form; dose is easy to adjust |
| Tablets | Himalaya Triphala 60 Tablets, Baidyanath Triphala 60 Tablets | No taste, easy to carry, fixed dose |
| Juice (ras) | Herbal Canada Triphala Ras | People who prefer a liquid; dilute as the label says |
| Triphala with guggulu | Baidyanath Triphala Guggulu | A different classical formula – not a substitute for plain triphala |
If you mainly want help with bowel regularity, fibre such as Dabur Sat Isabgol is another option – it is taken with plenty of water.
Who should take care
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women and children – ask a doctor first.
- People with long-standing diarrhoea, inflammatory bowel disease or recent bowel surgery.
- Anyone taking other medicines regularly, including for diabetes or blood thinning.
- Stop and see a doctor if you get stomach pain, loose motions or any unusual reaction.
Price of triphala churna
In November 2026, Dabur Triphala Churna 120 g is around ₹84 here (MRP ₹100), with packs of 2 and 3 at a lower price per pack. Live prices for every triphala product are shown on the product pages and in our Dabur products list.
Our recommendation
Choose triphala from a licensed maker, start with the lowest dose on the label and take it with warm water. Pick the powder if you are used to churna, or tablets for convenience. If constipation or digestive trouble keeps coming back, see a doctor rather than increasing the dose.
